“You were lost in your mind, Nini!” he said, standing with her. “Even she doesn’t blame you!”
“What happens when I do kill someone?” She asked, eyes filling with tears. ”What if it’s you? Again? What if I hurt you?”
“Sissy Nini.” he murmured, pulling her into a tight embrace. “You won’t, I know you won’t.”
“How do you know?” She demanded.
“Because you’re my sister, and I believe in you.” he said.
She paused for a moment. She just didn’t know what she was doing anymore. Suddenly it was very hard to breathe. No, that’s not what it was. She was wracked with uncontrollable sobs. Weak, afraid, useless. That’s what you are. He was better off without you. You should have died where you were strong.
Eli held her close, resting her head against his shoulder. “Please don’t cry sissy.” he murmured. ‘I don’t like it when you cry.”
She couldn’t stop. Weak, don’t let them see you weak. No one can see you weak. She hid her face against his shoulder, she wanted to stop, to be strong for him, but she couldn’t. I’ll look after him, mum. I’ll always look after him. She had lied, hadn’t she?
He gently rubbed her back, slowly bringing them down to the floor. He held her close, head leaning against hers.
She curled up, sobbing uncontrollably in his lap.
He continued to rub her back, gently rocking her.

She flinched away from his touch. “Go. Leave me here.”
“No.” he said. He sat down next to her and wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close.
“Eli, please,” she was afraid to push him away. She didn’t want to hurt him.
“No, I’m not leaving you Nini.” he said.
“You should. I’m not safe.” She wrapped her arms tighter around her knees.
He held her close, head resting against hers. “Yes you are.” he said. “You just have a lot of issues because of what you went through, and everyone understands that.”
“I almost killed someone, Eli!” She fought out of his arms and got to her feet. ”Not an undead, not a walker, a person! A girl who tapped me on the shoulder!”
